The Technology Development Foundation of Türkiye shifted its focus to climate technologies as of 2023 and aims to invest in at least five different climate technology projects that shall be the first of their kind in this field in the upcoming years and that can be scaled and replicated. For this purpose, first, climate technologies deemed a priority for our country were identified and a Venture Capital Investment Fund was established with the aim of investing in these technologies and the “Pioneer Project Investment Program” was initiated. In line with this vision, TTGV carries out studies called Deep Dive for the prioritised climate technologies it has identified, and investigates the current state of the technology by collaborating with domestic and international stakeholders. An informative report is prepared based on the results of the deep dive analysis performed on the relevant technologies. This report reveals the basic information and stakeholder approaches related to the investigated technology and includes studies on investment and feasibility by drawing up a project fiction.
Within the scope of the Pioneer Project Investment Program, “Sustainable Cement Production in the Process of Decarbonisation of the Building and Construction Sector” is chosen as the topic of the third In-Depth Analysis Project. A comprehensive Deep Dive Analysis was carried out between July and October 2023 in order to understand the chosen topic, analyse the current situation on the topic and develop potential project scenarios.
In this sectorial deep dive analysis study, planned studies and current activities within the scope of decarbonisation and sustainable cement production in the Turkish Cement Industry are discussed. The report provides a brief overview both of the global and Turkish Cement Industry. Furthermore, the most common production methods and the value chain in the cement industry are thoroughly analysed. Subsequently, the main decarbonisation pathways of this industry are presented and it is examined how demanddriven innovations can support emission reductions in the cement industry. In addition, the legislation and policies necessary to facilitate the scaling up of innovations that can support lower carbon emissions in this sector across the country are also studied within the scope of the report.
