
“Partnering to Enhance Civil Society Organizations’ Contribution to Research in Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSOContribution2SCP)” having the short name of “Action Town” is conducted between June 2008 and March 2011 with the leadership of UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on SCP (CSCP), Germany.
Along with the other project partners, namely Northern Alliance for Sustainability (ANPED/Netherlands), Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI/ Sweden), Sustainable Europe Research Institute (SERI/ Austria) and World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF-United Kingdom), Technology Development Foundation of Turkey (TTGV) is a partner, being one of the 4 National Focal Points (NFPs) identified in the scope of project.
With the leadership of TTGV, a national project was carried out for the dissemination of SCP concept in Turkey through awareness raising activities and pilot actions. Local partners of the project were, National Research Foundation (UPAV), UK-Turkey Environmental Sensitivity Organization (UTES), Turkish Society of HVAC and Sanitary Engineers (TTMD), METU Faculty of Architecture Research and Implementation Center for Built Environment and Design (MATPUM) and METU Environmental Engineering Department.
In the scope of the national project “Actions for promoting the development of Sustainable Consumption and Production policies in Turkey between stakeholders; Life cycle assessment for Sustainable Building” whose short name is SCPTurKEY, below activities were carried out
- Evaluation of national policy instruments related to SCP (current and potential regulations under the EU harmonization process)
- Development of proposal for the usage of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach as tool in SCP policies
- A pilot study on Life Cycle Assessment (a review study) focused on housing sector
As the closing event of the SCPTurKEY Project, a workshop was organized on 4th of March 2011 in Ankara. The aim of the workshop was to raise the awareness of various stakeholders on SCP concept in particular on policy instruments and Life Cycle Assessment as well as initiating a synergie between institiutions for possible further collaborations. The participants were from Governmental Institutions (16) including, State Planning Organization, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Public Works and Settlement, University and Research Institutions (8), Private Sector (12), Civil Society Organizations (23) and Others (9).
