Mr. Altuntas was born in 1971 in Kayseri. After attending to primary and secondary school in Kayseri, he contiued his education at Izmir Science High Scool. He took his bachelors degree from Bilkent University Department of Electrical Engineering, with a full scholarship. Later he went to USA, where he received his Msc and PhD degrees from University of Rochester, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
In 1996, while working at Hewlett-Packard's Palo Alto Laboratories as a research engineer, at the same time he worked as a consultant asisstant professor in Stanford University. After three years, he returned back to academic life and became associate professor in the Georgia Institute of Technology Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, where he received his "professor" title in 2009. Recently, between 2009 - 2011, he assumed resposibility as the President of TOBB University of Economics and Technology in Turkey.
He worked together with 19 PhD students, has more than 170 papers and 40 patents/patent applications. Besides his academic work, Mr. Altuntas contiuously worked in collaboration with the industry. He successfully prototyped an licensed a MPEG image processing device to a satellite and cable tv company. He initiated and leaded a image processing project as a senior advisor to Vestel.
He is currently the President of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.
