Global Environmental Facility (GEF) - NGO Network

Global Environment Facility (GEF) is a joint environmental programme established and managed by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and World Bank.

Mission of GEF is the protection of global environment. GEF aims to make the connection between local and global environmental problems with national and international resources. Role, administration, management and internal principles of GEF are based on the World Summit realized in Rio de Janeiro in 1991. It was established to provide environmental benefits via funds in four focus areas - biological diversity, climate change, international waters and depletion of ozone layer. Soil degradation and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were added to these focus areas in the ensuing years. (Ref: http://www.gefsgp.net)
