Born on April 23rd, 1925 in Istanbul, Mr. Mehmet Şuhubi completed his education at Marmara University, which at the time was the Higher Education School of Economics and Commerce.
He began his professional life in 1949 at an apparel and hosiery factory. His began a life of independence in 1963 when he founded his own company namely, Mim Organization Ltd. Throughout his professional life he has overseen the organization of many companies. He served multiple times as General Manger and he created opportunities for himself to serve in non-governmental organizations.
1967 he was among the founders of the Turkish Economic Law Research Foundation (TEHAV). He served as president for one term and he continues to be on the Board of Trustees.
He was accepted into the Rotary Club in 1970. He served as the Club President in 1986 and in the years 2004-2005 he served as Representative to the governing district 2420.
In 1973, while working to organize a spinning factory he saw the need for the establishment of a union to find solutions for the problems he was encountering and thus he played an active role in the establishment in the Union of Thread, Cloth and Textile Exporters. He served as the Vice President of the Union for a total of 14 years. During the time of the EEC he led the delegation in the negotiations in Brussels.
After having been chosen to serve as the Vice President and member of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry in 1975, he served for 14 years and then served as the Vice President of the TOBB Industrial Council and the Vice President of the Istanbul chamber of Industry Congress. He currently serves in the Chamber’s Congress as the head of the Legislation Commission.
He was a member for thirteen years in the Board of Directors representing the Istanbul Chamber of Industry in the Economic Development Foundation after being chosen in 1977.
He worked in as Vice President in the Istanbul Establishment of the Turkish Standards Institution on the Board of Directors representing the Chamber of Industry. He continued his active work of putting the TSE system there into alignment, until he moved to the TSE Gebze Centre.
He has held membership on the Board of Directors of TUSIAD since he was accepted 32 years ago. Currently he is a member of the High Advisory Council and the Disciplinary Council of TUSIAD and he serves as the Deputy Manager of the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee and the Parliamentary Affairs Committee of TUSIAD.
Since 1971 he has served as the Supervisory Board President of the Turkish Textile Employers’ Association.
He served for two terms as a member of the Supervisory Board for the Confederation of Turkish Employer’s Association and is currently a member of their Disciplinary Council.
He was chosen as first Supervisor and then the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts and he continues to do serve in the latter position.
He has served as a member of the Board of Directors at the Technology Development Foundation of Turkey since his selection in 1995.
He provided consultancy service between 1980 and 1985 to the State Planning Organization and the Undersecretariat of Treasury.
He was a member of the management of the Executive Committee of the Finishing and Apparel Clean Technologies Institute of which he was a founder while he was working at the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey Marmara Research Centre.
While working with his daughter Sibel Şuhubi at the established Teslo Textile Products company they agreed to a partnership requisition and made a partnership with a foreign company and the their company’s name was changed to Paxar-Teslo Inc. He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of this company until the end of 2003. Mr. Mehmet Şuhubi has many published works include articles, an etude and a book.
Mr. Mehmet Şuhubi is married with two daughters and two grandchildren.
