In the Global Environment Facility Trust Fund’s (GEF) 2006-2010 GEF-4 spanning budget period, approximately $17 million USA was allotted in grant money to projects in Turkey that focused on the issue of climate change. A beneficiary of this fund was the country project for Turkey entitled the Industrial Energy Efficiency Programme which was submitted for approval to the GEF by the collaboration of the Technology Development Foundation of Turkey (TTGV), the General Directorate of Electrical Power Resources Survey and Development Administration (EIE), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Support Administration (KOSGEB) along with the Turkish Standard Institute (TSE) were included as the project implementers. The detailed project’s preparation continued in 2009 and the activity areas for the respective parties were determined.
The TTGV has actively participated in the project’s preparation process. It is expected that for the project, which started in a de facto manner in 2010, that $6 million USA in grant money is to be transferred to Turkey. It is also expected that awareness will be raised and the capacity of industrial energy efficiency shall be increased, the capacity of related establishments shall be developed, mechanisms for financial support and incentives will be developed, and energy studies and demonstration projects and other application activities will be carried out. In the project, TTGV is going to be actively involved in the areas related to demonstration projects and financial mechanisms.
