Aselsan

He graduated in 1971 from Ankara Science Highschool and from the METU Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1976.

In 1976, while completing his graduate school work and an assistantship at the METU Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, he left school and joined Aselsan at the invitation of the Aselsan General Manager.  Later on, in 1979, he completed his Master’s work at METU and gained a Master’s degree.

During the establishment phase of Aselsan, he contributed to the work in creating an infrastructure for the mass production and testing of Aselsan’s transmitter products. After that he took part in many of Aselan’s technological investments and organizational activities along with work in establishing the Research and Development Department at Aselsan.  In the Department of Research and Development he took part in every thing from design engineering to project management.  In 1980, he was appointed Chief Engineer and then in 1982 he became Control Systems Manager.

In 1990, he joined the Microwave and System Technologies Group, which was established after Aselsan was divided into three groups, and was responsible for the integration and development of original software heavy civil/military system solutions.

He assumed the position of Automation Projects Director and was responsible for the management and direction of the intense engineering projects completed in this group. Within the context of this position he served as the Project Coordinator representing Aselsan in international projects like APGM and SHORADS/VSHORADS in addition to many national projects.

In 2000, as a result of the MST Group’s organizational changes and its redefinition of the activity domains he became the Director of the Defense Programs.  Included within this responsibility was the oversight of a variety of important projects such as the KMS (Pedestal Mounted Stinger System), the Leopard Tank Firing Control System, STAMP/STOP, HERIKKS, FIRTINA Firing Control Systems, TAIKS, ADOP and Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Intelligence.

While in this position, he managed the realization of exportation of KMS Air Defense Systems to Holland, which went down in history as the first export of an original defense system to a European Country.

Between the years of 2003 and 2008 he served as a representative of Aselsan as a member of the Roketsan Inc. Board of Directors.  In addition he served one term as the Board of Directors Chairman.

In 2006 he was appointed the head of the MST group.  Following 2008, he obtained the position of Group Chairman in the SST Group (Defense System Technologies), which is responsible for original system solutions in the fields of air defense, technical and tactical artillery firing support automation, command and control, sea systems and unmanned systems.

Fuat Akçayöz is married with two kids.  He is currently the Deputy General Manager of ASELSAN and serves as the Chairman of the SST Group.
